RV Awning Wind and Storm Damage and Destruction
The awning on your rv is designed to provide shade from the sun. There are other benifits such as providing some shelter when it rains. You should always close your awning when you leave the campsite. This will prevent it from tearing off in a sudden thunder storm or wind gust. It only takes one quick unplanned gust to ruin the awning and tear holes in your rv after ripping the hardware off and possibly damaging not only your rv but a neighbor’s too. I’ve seen an awning tube shoot through the windshield of a neighbor’s rig before and it creates a huge problem and several days of delay for the windshield to be replaced etc. I’ve been told lots of stories about the damage done by awnings to rv’s. … Read entire article »

RV Selection Warm in Cold Weather
Making your choice for an RV should include the climate conditions that you may experience while on the road. If you only plan on camping in the summer, heated enclosed underbelly, heated tanks and other winter options such as heat pump or heat strip in your a/c unit are not required. Also available.. double glass windows and extra insulation rated for freezing temps . I’ve spent two winters in Fla. and have experienced freezing temps both years. I talked to other campers that were cold and pipes froze etc. Having the heat pumps or heat strips will reduce your propane usage and give your furnace a break. The difference between heat pump and strip is..the heat pump requires your compressor in the a/c to run switching the a/c unit to … Read entire article »

RV Tire Life Span
I have talked to many people regarding rv tires and hear 5 years is the fair timeframe for rv tire life. Im told that the material in the tire breaks down and will begin falling apart/blowing out after the 5 year mark. Replacement will allow less chances for a blow out. Tire pressure is very important and should be checked before each trip. I’m told that tires with low pressure are likely to blow out. I changed my factory installed tires to H rated truck tires and have noticed an improvement regarding stability. I went from 235/80R22.5 to 255/70R22.5 H G169 RSA made by Goodyear. The cost is around 900.00 a pair installed. 2700.00 for a set of 6. The 70 is 1/2 inch wider than the 80 and gives … Read entire article »

RV Septic Tank Dumping Procedure
There is a common method to be followed to keep your rv septic and holding tanks. The black tank that only the toiled dumps into has the larger valve and should be kept closed until you are ready to dump. The gray tank can be left open while you are hooked up to a dumping station at your site. There may be a second grey tank located near the galley that will have it’s own dump valve. It can also be left open if you are connected. The black tank requires a volume of liquids to mix with the solids. This will allow the surge pressure to empty the black tank when you pull the valve handle to dump while connected to a dump station. If you … Read entire article »

RV Body/Roof Damage Insurance Claims
I want to let RV owners know that it’s important to have their RV repaired if you experience an accident. Backing into a site or parking it in your driveway could result in some damage. I’ve seen many damaged RV’s and asked the owner about having it repaired. The most common response is,”I’m not worried about it” or It’s just a small accident…etc. That’s ok until you want to trade or sell the camper. That is where it can cost you lots of lost value. The next potential customer may want a nice looking non damaged RV and pass on buying your unit. If you are trading your unit ,the value will be lowered if there is damage. Find an RV Repair Center that has the capability of repairing … Read entire article »

RV Day/Night Shades Need Repair
I met someone yesterday that had the cord break on one of their day/night shades. They stopped in to a dealership to get a quote on a repair and it was 115.00 plus tax. Sounds like this should be a self repair! I researched and found a RV Shade Repair Kit that may be ordered probably from any dealership or on line. There is a kit for 2 cord and 4 cord in 3 different colors. The kit has a Master Cording Cd-Rom with step by step instructions on how to make repairs to the 12 most common cording patterns for two, three or four cord shades. The kit also includes other parts. Cost is 15.00-20.00 plus shipping. I’m happy to know there is a more reasonable cost for … Read entire article »

Workhorse Chassis Brake Recall
I have a 2005 Holiday Rambler motorhome with a Workhorse chassis and have rec’d 2 notices of recall and waiting for the third. I wonder if there are others that are having issues with their brakes? I have talked to some folks that are not experiencing any problems. I will offer a tip regarding the issue and welcome others to share their knowledge. Ultra Lite Pop Up Camper
I found a line of very lite pop up trailers that you can tow with any compact car or a motorcycle. It’s made by Quicksilver called Livin Lite. There are dealers all over the country. I noticed this as I was driving by a dealership in Fla. The Quicksilver website has a video on how easy they are to set up. I actually participated in setting up a trailer and it was very easy. The frame & floor is welded aluminum and looks to be very well constructed. The trailer weight on the one I helped set up was 600 lbs. there was also a larger one that weighed 800 lbs. This Lite trailer can be towed by just about any small car. Are there any Livin … Read entire article »
