Leveling Jack Troubles
We have a 2005 Holiday Rambler Admiral, Model 36WDD. We have a Power Gear Electronic Leveling System.
Last winter during a trip to Key West, we pushed the automatic “Jacks Retract” button. The jacks-down light went out and we started the engine and left the campground. Problem was, half way down the driveway of the campground all the lights on the “Jack Pad” started flashing and there was a wild beeping.
Alarmed by the noice and flashing lights, we pulled over and got out of the motorhome to check that the jacts were truly up. And they were.
A bit baffled by the events we jumped back into the motorhome, made the decision to keep going (the jacts were up) and started driving again despite the noise and flashing.
At the end of the campground driveway, we had to go over a set of speed bumps. Miraculously after doing so, the noise stopped and the lights went dark. We were happy, suprised and satisfied that the problem was fixed. We were “good the go”.
About 2 miles down the road the beeping started up again. We were a bit perplexed but figured that it would stop – it had before. And it did.
However during the day, on our 4 hour trip to Key West (there was lots of traffic) the beeping would start and stop again. Unfortunately I think we spend about 1 full hour listening to the beeping by the time the trip was done.
Over the course of the next 6 months, the same series of events would happen on and off again without any rhyme or reason to the timing.
It wasn’t until this fall, in preparing for our trip south again that we asked our Mobile RV Technician what the problem might have been. (I know – we could have asked earlier and had some quieter trips…..)
He said that the cause of the problem was that the fluid in the resevoir was low. He took a peak and surely it was. (Our hydrolic pump and resevior are located in the generator cabinet)
Since he added the fluid our trips have beem much quiet. This was certainly a “who knew” kind of lesson. We are glad that we know now!
